Central Dalmatia is the easiest sailing you can buy. From Split, Trogir or Kaštela the first island is an hour away, and after that you rarely sail more than twenty miles in a day: Šolta for the first quiet night, Vis when you want open water, Hvar when you want noise and a good dinner. The maestral fills in most afternoons at a polite 12–18 knots and dies with the sun, so mornings are for miles and afternoons for swimming. Three international airports feed the area, which is why half the world's charter fleet lives here; it also means bases are professional and turnarounds quick. Our tip: do the outer leg first — Vis and the Pakleni islands early in the week, Hvar and Brač on the way home — and you'll be moving against the crowd instead of with it.
