Porto Montenegro (Tivat) → Kotor → Sveti Stefan → Bar → Porto Montenegro (Tivat)
Two weeks from Porto Montenegro (Tivat) through Boka Bay to Bar and back: Kotor, Perast, Budva, Sveti Stefan, quiet coves and old towns.
See day-by-day →Montenegro, in a sailor's words.
The Bay of Kotor sails like nowhere else in the Adriatic: a deep ria wrapped in near-vertical limestone, glassy at breakfast and stirred by a steady afternoon maestral that settles around 10 to 20 knots before dying off near sunset. Distances stay forgiving. Most legs run 5 to 18 nautical miles, so you can loiter under the Venetian ramparts of Kotor, then reach the baroque waterfront of Perast and its islet church, Our Lady of the Rocks, without a rushed passage. Push out of the bay and the open coast opens toward Budva's walled old town and the Sveti Stefan islet, roughly 25 miles from the mouth. Swim into the Blue Cave off the Luštica peninsula on a calm morning, before the day boats arrive. One habit pays off here: when the northeast bora threatens, the inner arms of the bay stay sheltered while the outer coast turns rough, so save your down-coast runs for settled forecasts.
