See day-by-day →Ionian, in a sailor's words.
The Ionian runs on a schedule you can set your watch by: glassy mornings, a friendly northwest breeze from lunch until sunset, then calm again for dinner on the quay. No meltemi, short legs, deep sheltered bays — this is where Greek flotillas learn to walk, and where experienced crews come to actually relax. From Lefkas you can reach Meganisi's fjords in an afternoon; Ithaca and Kefalonia fill the middle of the week with green mountains and one-taverna harbours; Fiskardo and Kioni are as pretty as Greek villages get. Further north, Corfu adds Venetian streets and Paxos its famous west-coast cliffs. Bring a long line for tying stern-to a taverna quay — you'll use it every night.
